The Exorcist 3/5
"Will you dare to watch?"
The terribly spooky music continuously played in the back ground of most scenes, doesn't hide the irritating fact that the film is definitely not a horror and is nothing but an old fashioned documentary for the light hearted to enjoy. Although, it's the speculation that followed the making of the film that intrigued me most.
During the filming of this 1970s "horror" many became convinced that the movie was cursed, and there was strong evidence for this claim too. The death of Linda Blair's grandfather and Max Von Sydow's brother, who died on the first day of filming was the first suspicion. While days later, the son of Jason Miller, who played Father Damien Karras, was nearly killed when a motorcycle hit him, incidents that cannot be explained without referring to the EXORCIST. And the curse of this undoubtably cruel media product does not stop there, as shooting was delayed after the set caught fire destroying what was supposed to be the MacNeil's home; while director William Friedkin blaming the incident on a winged creature with talons and many believed this was a sign of anguish from those who were involved in the real life demonic possession.
Another was later affected by this cursed novel, actress Ellen Burstyn, who played Reagan's mother (the young girl possessed by the demon) was actually injured when Reagan throws her to the ground and the intense scream she lets out is completely real. The injuries she occurred on this day still bother her now, she also blames the curse of the EXORCIST.
Finally, actor Jack MacGowran and Vailiki Maliaros both died while the film was in post-production and what makes this especially terrifying and bizarre is that their characters died in the film as well.
The release of the film later brought terror to the audience, with it being banned in every middle eastern country and on one occasion a women was so terrified by the content she fainted and broke her jaw on the way down, suing Warner Brothers for a disclosed amount, but most definitely a lot.
The list of horrors only gets deeper and some who watch it to this day still claim to have visits in there sleep and disturbances that make them ill with panic. Will you dare to watch?
