Five Great British Adverts!

Image
Five Great British Adverts Levi's, 1992. The iconic Levi's advert instantly wins over the women viewers such as myself, with the stereotypical romanic American music followed by a tall, dark and handsome man swooping on scene, and sexually ripping his shirt off as he rebelliously dives into the water and although he keeps his trousers on it does not make him any less good looking. Levi's do this to demonstrate to the typical 1990s rebellious teenager how nice the jeans look on.  And making their audience desperate for a pair, to look as good as him and to get the women's attention.  The denotation is a male repeatedly diving into different pools, the connotations of this is that each pool is owned by a different age range and social class this suggests that Levi's considered their jeans to be worn and loved by everyone. The mise-en-scene is a very happy atmosphere; the sun is shining and people are all together enjoying each others company. The ...

Vogue India|Going Home 5*

Vogue India|Going Home 5* "I've never seen such an intense 6 minute film. From the moment I pressed play I was instantly hooked". A group of rough looking men approaching a naive women, alone and with no get away would normally in a film result in one thing... sexual abuse. Although, in this short film Vogue captured the possible threats and manipulated the audience into thinking the worst when the outcome is positive and up lifting. This plot change is controlled by the woman and her views on the world that she thinks exists. The use of sound effects has a huge impact on the film, which I believe is why it was so successful in instantly hooking the audience. The beating heart sound intensified the film in parts which made me think something terrible was going to happen and just as the moment was built up enough, the sound quickly changed into an upbeat song. Watching this short film was really an emotional roller coaster, not knowing until the final s...

Villain's

Image
The Joker The denotation of the Joker creates the image of a psychopath with an extravagant image. The Joker uses his extreme appearance and behavior to defy typical representations such as social and economic class, age and sexuality. His face paint, green hair and unusual costumes disturbs viewers by confusing them while creating a sense of mystery because he's such a complex character but meanwhile being so present and simple to understand. His villainous character plays on what he believes to be social righteousness when in fact his judgement is clouded by his sinister experiences and criminal objectives. The way he behaves is supported by the music used; eerie melodies with dark sound effects pair up with every scene that he is in, contributing to his villainous motives. Darth Vader The intense build up in this rememberable scene, created by the chilling music and siren sound effects immediately shows Darth Vader is approaching.  With a sudden black out, ...

The Nun

Image
The Nun. Wasted time, money and screen time. As a dedicated fan of the sequel films; The Conjuring and Annabelle I had high expectations that the film would blow me away. Although, The Nun took at least 1 hour before a jump scene even appeared on screen and by this time i was so bored i was struggling to keep my eyes open as I hydrated myself on the strongest coffee in an attempt to stay awake, with no idea it was only going to get worse. The final hour only dragged on and with only one outcome possible it felt like a chore to carry on watching. Moreover, the acting was too forced and unrealistic making the film look cheap while portraying a bad image upon the director.  Lastly, I cannot stress to you enough how disappointed I was with the film. 2/10.
